Martin worked as a features writer for The New York Times and The New York Times Magazine for 12 years (194052). She penned articles for The Yale Review, Read Magazine (a children's magazine published by Weekly Reader), and Country Book Magazine. Martin also wrote articles that ran in IBM's Think magazine and The American Tradition.
While writing her articles, Martin ran a farm in Fairfax, Virginia, which she renovated from a previously dilapidated property. Themes from her farming activities and novelists Ellen Glasgow, Edith Wharton, Elizabeth Drexel, and Virginia Woolf influenced Martin's writing. The Kentucky Historical Society, a Kentucky state agency in Frankfort, Kentucky, houses Martin's papers and her uncle Micajah's. (Micajah Fible wrote for The Chicago Tribune). The collection preserves manuscripts for Martin's New York Times articles, her notebooks and diaries, and her application for the Daughters of the American Revolution. (The application contains supporting documents, including copies of wills, an 1819 indenture, and genealogical information.) The collection also includes letters between Micajah Fible and novelist John Fox, Jr.
In 1945, Martin penned an article for The New York Times Magazine that shared her observations of prisoners of war (POWs) laboring on a farm. Located near the Fairfax County Courthouse, the farm housed 158 POWs from World War II, including Austrians, Czechs, Germans, and Poles. The POWs worked a 12-hour-day that lasted from 7 am to 7 pm, and they served as dairymen, poultrymen, and general farmers. Describing the historical experiences of POWs in America, the 1976 book The Enemy among Us: World War II Prisoners of War referenced Martin's article. The 1978 book The Faustball Tunnel: German POWs in America and Their Great Escape also references her article.

Construction and service of h&m new collectionMoses H. Grinnell, a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, commissioned George Steers to build the vessel for use as a pilot-boat and as a yacht for pleasure trips. Grinnell was a partner with his brother, Joseph Grinnell, in the shipping firm Grinnell, Minturn & Co. The Grinnell was owned by George W. Blunt of New York.
The Grinnell was the first sailing vessel to have the very long, sharp, and concave clipper-bow that became the prototype for the famous racing yacht, America.
On May 3, 1851, the Grinnell was in a race with the yacht Cornelia for a purse of $1,000. They went around the lightship and back.where? The Grinnell was the winner.
In August 1852, William Smith and Isaac Gaynor of the pilot boat Moses H. Grinnell were picked up by the schooner Fremont, after being lost in a fog, when putting a pilot on board the ship George Canning.
The Grinnell was one of only twenty-one New York pilot boats in 1860.
In late October, 1863, the seven year old Grinnell was run down in the dark by the United States supply steamer Union on the Outer Middle Ground in Long Island Sound. The Grinnell carried no light when struck by the Union. No one was injured in the incident.
On August 11, 1864, during the American Civil War, the Grinnell reported that they saw a vessel burning off Montauk, New York. The pilots believed that the CSS Tallahassee was working her way toward Nantucket Shoals.
In 1871, the Grinnell, collided with two barques near The Battery and was damaged, ran ashore and filled with water.
She was registered with the Index to Ship Registers from 1876 to 1879 with Captain J. B. Lockman as master and the N. Y. Pilots as the owners. From 1881 to 1882 she was registered with H. L. Gurney and the owners were the Boston Pilots.

Burmese collection of meditation musicThe official Burmese collected edition contains the following texts:
Paramatthamajus, k by Dhammapla on Buddhaghosa's Visuddhimagga; scholars have not yet settled which Dhammapla this is
Three kyo on the Samantapsdik, commentary on the Vinaya Piaka:
k by Vajirabuddhi
Sratthadpan by Sriputta Thera (12th century)
Vimativinodan by Mahkassapa Thera (13th century)
Two kyo on the Kankhavitarani, commentary on the Pimokkha
kyo by Dhammapla on Buddhaghosa's Sumangalavilasin, Papancasudan and Saratthapakasini, commentaries on the Dgha, Majjhima and Sayutta Nikya; it is generally considered by scholars that this is a different Dhammapla from the one who wrote commentaries.
Visuddha(jana)vilasini by Nanabhivamsa, head of the Burmese sangha, about 1800; a new partial tika on the Sumangalavilasini, covering only the first volume of the Digha Nikya
Saratthamanjusa by Sriputta Thera on Buddhaghosa's Manorathapurani on the Aguttara Nikya
Nettitk on Dhammapla's commentary on the Nettipakaraa
Nettivibhavini'' by a 16th-century Burmese author whose name is given in different manuscripts as Saddhamma-, Samanta- or Sambandha-pala; this is not a new tika on the Netti commentary, but a new commentary on the Netti itself
Mlatk by nanda on the commentaries on the Abhidhamma Piaka
Anutk on the MlatkThere are other tikas without this official recognition, some printed, some surviving in manuscript, some apparently lost. The name tika is also applied to commentaries on all non-canonical works, such as the Mahvasa. There are also some sub-commentaries in vernacular languages.
Extracts from some of these works have been translated, usually along with translations of commentaries.

Career and research of collection agencyRowland held academic posts at Princeton University (195256) and at the University of Kansas (195664) before becoming a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, in 1964. At Irvine in the early 1970s he began working with Mario J. Molina. Rowland was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1978 and served as a president of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 1993. His best-known work was the discovery that chlorofluorocarbons contribute to ozone depletion. Rowland theorized that man made organic compound gases combine with solar radiation and decompose in the stratosphere, releasing atoms of chlorine and chlorine monoxide that are individually able to destroy large numbers of ozone molecules. It was obvious that Frank had a good idea of what was occurring at higher altitudes when he stated "...I knew that such a molecule could not remain inert in the atmosphere forever, if only because solar photochemistry at high altitudes would break it down". Rowland's research, first published in Nature magazine in 1974, initiated a scientific investigation of the problem. In 1978, a first ban on CFC-based aerosols in spray cans was issued in the United States. The actual production did however not stop and was soon on the old levels. It took till the 1980s to allow for a global regulation policy.
Rowland performed many measurements of the atmosphere. One experiment included collecting air samples at various cities and locations around the globe to determine CCl3F North-South mixing. By measuring the concentrations at different latitudes, Rowland was able to see that CCl3F was mixing between hemispheres quite rapidly. The same measurement was repeated 8 years later and the results showed a steady increase in CCl3F concentrations. Rowland's work also showed how the density of the ozone layer varied by season increasing in November and decreasing until April where it levels out for the summer only to increase in November. Data gained throughout successive years showed that although the pattern was consistent, the overall ozone levels were dropping. Rowland and his colleagues interacted both with the public and the political side and suggested various solutions, which allowed to step wise reduce the CFC impact. CFC emissions were regulated first within Canada, the United States, Sweden and Norway. In the 1980s, the Vienna Agreement and the Montreal Protocol allowed for global regulation.
