Probably people don't have as much disposable income. I remember when I was a kid in the 90's, peoples houses would just be stuffed with junk. Things you don't really need. These days, I have stuff I've collected over the years, presents and such but for the most part, most everything that isn't necessary like my computer, clothes, toiletries, dishes and stuff like that was bought like at least 10 years ago. These days, if you see something that you don't need, even if you like it, you'll probably just not want to waste the money. I also think people are less tactile these days. People are more likely to buy something electronic rather than buying a coin or a knickknack. Like music, games, movies, apps, that kind of thing
