1. Joining Air Force to be a nurse?

Your best approach might be through ROTC. When I was on active duty I worked side by side with many RN's. In the USAF medically trained enlisted personnel serve in the traditional roles of CNA and/or LPN. People with 4 year nursing degrees are officers and serve as RN's. An associates degree will not get you commissioned and at most might get you 1 or 2 stripes upon completion of basic training. I was taken off the streets of Providence, RI and after BMTS went 13 miles down Military Drive from Lackland AFB to the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB, TX. At the time (1975) they trained Aeromedical, Military Public Health, and Altitude Chamber Technicians. Flight Surgeons also trained there. We learned to do everything from treatment of injuries and wounds, triage, injections, suturing, and much more with a concentration in altitude physiology. All in 8 weeks of school. The enlisted medical training his moved completely to Sheppard AFB in Witchita Falls, TX. Honestly I do not know if they will pay for your school (talk to a recruiter and GET IN WRITING). I do know they paid signing bonuses to doctors and nursing personnel initially and in subsequent re-enlistments. Most AFB's have pediatric clinics as it is cost effective. If you get your 4 year nursing degree and enter the USAF as a 2nd Lt. you do not have to concern yourself with "bedpan commando" duty... Best of luck. 2. How good of a job is being a nurse?

My mom was a nurse or director of nurses for 30 years-it was very rewarding and she loved her job. But you have to deal with lots of paperwork. It depends on how you deal with stress if you like working with patients and their families-some people thrive on it, others get burned out. When she went back to work after having kids, she worked rotating shifts, which I now realize was rough on someone taking care of a family and home too. Good luck!

3. Are women supposed to be fatter and nurse children?

Yes, women are supposed to carry more body fat so as to be able to nurture a foetus and breastfeed a baby. It's not unfair. It's only unfair that society now pressures women to get rid of that body fat. The trick is to tell society to shove it up its ****.

4. Question for all pharmacists and register nurse out there! :)?

I am a registered nurse, so I will answer these questions honestly. No one forced me into it. I have had a passion for it since I was young and I graduated nursing school with a 3.9 gpa. I am really good at what I do, but I will still be honest. 1) No & No. Nursing is not enjoyable. It should be, but it's not. Unfortunately I am unable to really help my patients and spend enough time with them. 2) My daily job is never the same. We are pretty much bullied into taking on double the workload we should be and live in constant fear of losing our licenses. There is a lot of bullying and harassment amongst other nurses and nothing is ever done about it. You are also talked down to by everyone and made to feel very inadequate. 3) Absolutely...I am a human being and being treated as bad as a slave. I am grumpy because I am so tired and stressed out. My mind is constantly worrying about work that day..I never relax..it's a miserable cycle. I am currently seeking to start antidepressants...all of my other coworkers are on them, too, just to get through the day. 4) My current salary is SOOOOO low in comparison to how much we are slaved around for. 5) I absolutely regret getting into this field. Most BSN grads cannot even land a job. Try googling "I hate nursing" or "No nursing shortage". 6) One thing I can say is that you are never really bored at work. You are too overworked to ever become bored. I am a Registered Nurse and actually considered Pharmacy. It's only an extra 2 years, you make more, better hours, more respect, and soooooo much less stress. All of my friends that went into Pharmacy are making SO much and absolutely LOVE their jobs. Seriously..you do the science in college...keep your grades up..and then you get a job basically counting pills and making sure they do not interact with each other..with the invention of computer programs and internets..you can bet that most of the work is already done for you. I highly suggest you get into Pharmacy. It's such a reputable field. I would give ANYTHING to do it all over and go into Pharmacy.
