Diagon AlleyThis chapter won my heart, this is where the magic begins. Entering the Leaky Cauldron and realizing Harry isn't just some common boy, feeling as excited as Dedalus Diggle, as nervous as Quirrel and yet waiting for whats to come next. You can feel Harry's wonder as the bricks melt away with the touch of Hargid's wand (Shhh).Gringotts, the Apothecary, Eyelops Emporium, Ollivanders, Florean Fortescue's, Madam Malkin's, everyplace just seemed amazing and i was frantically designing the shops and the streets in my mind. That's the beauty of reading, visualizing scenes rather than just watching the director's interpretation. Diagon Alley was the first magical place we were introduced to, and it shall always hold a special place in my heart. Hogwarts may be all fancy-shmancy in its castle glory, but Diagon Alley in its hap-hazardous rustling bustling turmoil takes the cake!The concept of Gringotts makes me go Bloody hell! Hagrid surprises everyone with his knowledge concerning stalagmites and stalactites. I so wanted to take the cart ride deep into Gringotts and see the rumored dragon (which one can in a HP theme park in Florida). And the money! Galleons, sickles and the little bronze knuts. 17 sickles to a Galleon and 29 Knuts to a sickle if i'm not wrong. And the goblins, extremely creepy, but goblins! I want beetle eyes at five knuts a scoop. A scoopfull of beetle eyes could be helpful in the most unexpected of circumstances! And the solid gold cauldron. The collapsible telescope. Hagrid's such a killjoy. Curses and counter-curses by Prof Viridian, now that's a handy book to have. I wouldn't mind using the Jelly Legs Jinx on a couple of people i know! We meet all sorts of interesting and important people. Hagrid of course is easy to bump into, but apart from him we also meet Malfoy, Ollivander, Griphook, Quirrel, all who play major roles later. Malfoy shows his true colors as a prick, Griphook i found downright creepy, especially when he relished at the idea of people locked in vaults for ten years! The wand, the magical wand! Everyone was waiting for this part. The wand chooses the wizard. Simply beautiful. JKR described this part with remarkable brilliance, Mr Ollivander and his obsession with finding the perfect wand for each customer of his. I found the Voldy connection a bit too cliche though.The chapter was magic. From the moment Harry walks into the Leaky Cauldron till he returns back to the Dursleys, the chapter enchants and amazes. It provides valuable information and is the perfect beginning to the magical journey the seven books take us through!

It's a huge topic - I'll focus on weeding, or why libraries keep or retire circulating items in their collections.At least in terms of weeding, technology makes it much easier.Back in the old days, librarians in public libraries had to consult the checkout cards in the pocket in the front or back of the book, coupled with personal memory. Now, most library software lets titles be sorted into lists by "Last checkout date" and/or "Number of checkouts."
